Checking pulpit abuse might be difficult – CAN

Archbishop Stephen Adegbite, Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Wednesday,  said it might be difficult for CAN to control preaching from the pulpit.

Adegbite, also the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He spoke against the backdrop of recent uncomplimentary messages attributed to some gospel preachers.

He said that such messages were unacceptable but would be difficult to stop since their preachers could claim the messages were from God.

He said that a man of God must promote as stated in the Bible.

“Every minister of God must use his tongue well to preach to  the people, not at the people.

“The body of Christ regulating messages from the pulpit might be difficult because such preachers will tell you they are speaking what God  revealed to them,” he said.

He frowned at politics-induced messages, describing preaching at the people as spiritual arrogance.

He said that CAN had always advised its members to preach with the fear of God.

“Everyone must give account of his stewardship before God one day.”

The cleric prayed for God’s wisdom for gospel preachers.
